I have been a Governor at Shawfield Primary School for over 20 years and hope I have helped the school continuously improve the education given to our pupils during this time. I am currently a co-opted member of the Governing body.
I lead the Governing body on Child Protection and Finance.
I live in the village and my wife Gillian runs the Jack & Jill Nursery located in the school grounds. I  have three children and 5 grandchildren.
I have an Honours degree in Physics and following 42 years in the Telecommunications industry, I have now been retired for 6 years. My interests include Kayaking, Walking, DIY, reading and spending time with my family.

I joined as a Parent Governor in November 2025. I have over 20 years’ experience working with children aged 0–19, including as an Early Years Practitioner, Sports Coach, and Wraparound Care Coordinator.

I have a real passion for reading and have completed the Supporting Learners with Dyslexia/SpLDs and Supporting Children with Challenging Behaviour courses with the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity. These have deepened my understanding of the challenges children may face and how to recognise the support they need. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, playing a round of miniature golf, and getting stuck into a woodwork project.

I was co-opted as a member of the Governing Body in 2021 and consider it a privilege to be able to give something back to the education system. I look forward to connecting with the staff, pupils and parents and through my own experiences, skills and continued commitment, hope to add a fresh perspective and help to enhance the strategic direction of our village school.  

I have a BA Hons in Music Industry Management which integrated my passion for music and the world of business. I have been in the property industry for 20 years and am currently the Conduct Risk Manager for a company in Guildford, ensuring governance and compliance within our workplace.  

I am currently the secretary and a trustee for the Shawfield School Association (SSA) and have been an active member since 2017.  I live in Ash Vale with James and our 2 children, both currently attending Shawfield Primary School. As a family, we love to explore the local area, go to music festivals and spend many a weekend camping. Prior to lockdown, I was a member of a local choir getting involved with lots of local charity events. I also play the piano and have recently taught myself the ukulele.   

Strategy Director, Chartered Accountant, Mother. Currently work in the Technology industry, driving performance improvements.  I have a broad professional background working with organisations of various sizes within a variety of sectors, all with very different and complex needs.  Professional specialisms include:  Data Insight & Performance Measurement, Operations & Finance, Process Design & Improvement, Project Management & Change Management.  Mother to two primary aged children.                               

I was co-opted as a member of the Governing Body in January 2024. I am really excited to join the Governing Body of the School - from looking around the School, it is clear that the ethos shines throughout the School and the children very much enjoy being there. Having grown up in Surrey and having a parent who is a secondary school teacher living in Ash, I know about the local area and hear about some of the issues affecting mainstream schools.   I am a charities solicitor specialising in education law at Bates Wells LLP. I really enjoy dealing with schools, colleges, universities and education charities and have been to many board meetings throughout my working life. I am very passionate about education, particularly about fair education and education for all. I am separately a trustee for a mental health children’s
                                  charity in Surrey called the Matthew Hackney Foundation. In my spare time, I
                                  love walking my Springador Stanley, swimming and playing guitar. 

I have just been elected as a co-opted governor and am looking forward to working alongside everyone at Shawfield to help ensure Shawfield’s continued educational excellence and success.  I have a Bachelor of Laws degree and professionally, I am currently a chartered accountant working for a multinational tech and online retail company. My past professional roles specialised in the review of government financial statements and spending.  I grew up in Farnborough, and now live in North Camp with my fiancée Lauren, and our two cats, Loki and Lexi. Outside of work, you will normally find me either playing golf or cricket!

My name is Lou Aherne. I have just been elected as a parent governor and look forward to working along side the school, the pupils, staff and parents in helping to ensure Shawfield’s continued improvement and success.  I have lived in Ash Vale with my husband Marcus since 2004. We have 4 children, our eldest now at Ash manor who went to Shawfield, 10 year old twins in Year 5 and our youngest daughter due to start in September. I have a Bachelor of Education Honours Degree Primary with QTS, and have taught in the Primary Sector since graduating in 2002. My interests are animals, walking, cycling, theatre, reading, travelling, and spending quality time with my family.
