School Rebuild

As you may be aware, the existing main school building at Shawfield Primary School has been found to contain Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in parts of the structure, with temporary remedial work undertaken by Surrey County Council in May 2023. Since then, we have been working closely with the Department of Education (DfE) and are now in a position to provide an exciting update. The DfE has allocated funding through the School Rebuilding Programme, resulting in a multi‑million-pound redevelopment of the site to ensure safe, modern and high‑quality facilities for our children.

The DfE has appointed Galliford Try as principal contractor to design and construct the new school. Working alongside their specialist design team, Galliford Try are now developing detailed proposals for the new Shawfield Primary School.

The current proposals include a new two‑storey school building, located in approximately the same position as the existing structure. This new building will provide a significantly enhanced teaching and learning environment, built to the latest construction standards and designed to be highly sustainable and net‑zero carbon in operation. The redevelopment does not include any increase in pupil numbers or staffing.
